I thought of LXDE, still being in an Ubuntu-world of Kubuntu, Lubuntu, etc. I don’t want KDE, of course (I think it’ll take a lot of the resources). But I must admit I haven’t tried it for like 10 years. I remember me installing Ubuntu and trying to remove everything I don’t need… ebut now… I’m not a Linux user, but I have a feeling I won’t like it, my intuition just keeps telling me I don’t want Gnome.

When I came to the question of the distro I took the slow specs as the cornerstone, so I need a minimal distro at first. Since I have a Chromebook, I use Chrome’s features, but I also really like what modern Firefox on macOS is! Being it Rust or what, it’s super fast! I don’t know what Firefox is on Linux, I expect it to be as good, since it was (is?) often a default browser on some (many?) distros.Ĭoming to the most important stuff.

All of the rest, I think, I’ll try to go with CLI.

Well, actually seems like I don’t really want to waste my time on that, so I decided to install Linux.īasically, it’s a browser I need. Plus, well, the main reason I’ve bought it is to play with Linux on a real machine, with a real semi-working environment, what if it’ll fit my needs? I hope!īefore switching to Linux, I thought maybe try to install macOS Mojave with a hack, just for the curiosity of how slow the machine would be. I even have iCloud weird behaviour of doing something to me: frequent ‘security’ locks with forcing me to change my password, because of too many devices, I assume, though it’s less than 10, including iPhone, iPad and Macs, so I thought making it one macOS device less could help. My old Chromebook of similar specs is super fast, comparing to that.Īs I have few different Macbooks already, I don’t need macOS on this tiny guy. As I don’t like old software, I’ve updated the macOS from El Capitan to High Sierra and it is very slow, in very basic tasks. I’ve bought the device just to play with, and I like it a lot, even it’s being super slow. I’ve bought the laptop used few months agoĪs I came to know later - its screen lights at max brightness only, I don’t know whether it’ll change in Linux.
